World Book Day
World Book Day is fast approaching on Thursday 5th March, and we are very excited to celebrate the joy of reading with the children.
This year’s theme is “Reading for Pleasure”, encouraging children to explore books in a relaxed, enjoyable way and discover the stories that spark their imagination.
As 2026 is also The National Year of Reading, we will be celebrating across the week with a variety of fun, engaging activities designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
Key information:
- All children are invited to dress up as their favourite fictional book character on Thursday 5th March. We are encouraging children to bring the book that inspired their costume into school so they can share with the class.
- Please support your child in creating a book‑inspired piece of artwork using any materials they like - paint, collage, drawing, pastels, etc. These will be collated into a school gallery for the children to see! Please bring this in by Monday 2nd March.
- In keeping with the World Book Day theme ‘Reading for Pleasure’, children are invited to bring in a book to swap. If you can, please bring a book in by Monday 2nd March.
- Pupils will receive a book token which can be used to buy special World Book Day books in shops (or £1 off a preferred book).
- Classes will buddy up to enjoy reading and sharing stories together.
- A daily 10‑minute ‘Drop Everything and Read’ session where children can read in any cosy or creative way they choose - on a cushion, under a table, in the book corner, or wherever they feel comfortable.
- To help boost enthusiasm for home reading, we are introducing a fun Reading Record Challenge! Every time a child records their reading at home, they will earn a raffle entry. Winners will be drawn during Friday’s achievement assembly.
