Other Support for Pupils with SEND

 Class teachers
All of our teachers receive in-house SEN training, and are supported by the SENCo to meet the needs of pupils who have SEN. Teachers have ongoing CPD linked to SEN, including ASC (Autistic Spectrum Conditions), Just Right, supporting pupils with literacy difficulties, managing behaviour that challenges, Social Emotional and Mental Health, attachment and ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences).

Teaching Assistants (TAs)
We have a team of TAs, who are trained to deliver SEN provision. They have regular CPD and training opportunities around SEN support and provision.

External agencies and experts
Sometimes we need extra help to offer our pupils the support that they need. Whenever necessary we will work with external support services to meet the needs of our pupils with SEN and to support their families. These include:

  • Speech and language therapists
  • Educational psychologists
  • Occupational therapists
  • GPs or paediatricians
  • School nurse team
  • Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS)
  • Education welfare officers
  • Social services and other LA-provided support services
  • Voluntary sector organisations

Please contact Mr Bignal if you have any questions regarding SEN provision at Saltdean. He can be reached on enq@saltdean.brighton-hove.sch.uk or by calling 01273 303358.
